Job 6

World English Bible — British Edition

Then Job answered,

“Oh that my anguish were weighed,

For now it would be heavier than the sand of the seas,

For the arrows of the Almighty are within me.

Does the wild donkey bray when he has grass?

Can that which has no flavour be eaten without salt?

My soul refuses to touch them.

“Oh that I might have my request,

even that it would please God to crush me;

Let it still be my consolation,

What is my strength, that I should wait?

Is my strength the strength of stones?

Isn’t it that I have no help in me,

“To him who is ready to faint, kindness should be shown from his friend;

My brothers have dealt deceitfully as a brook,

which are black by reason of the ice,

In the dry season, they vanish.

The caravans that travel beside them turn away.

The caravans of Tema looked.

They were distressed because they were confident.

For now you are nothing.

Did I ever say, ‘Give to me’?

or, ‘Deliver me from the adversary’s hand’?

“Teach me, and I will hold my peace.

How forcible are words of uprightness!

Do you intend to reprove words,

Yes, you would even cast lots for the fatherless,

Now therefore be pleased to look at me,

Please return.

Is there injustice on my tongue?
