Deuteronomy 30:19-20 “This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to His voice and hold fast to Him. For the Lord is your life, and He will give you many years in the land He swore to give your fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob”
One prominent feature of all MOGPA programs is the altar call to give people the chance to come to God. This is because the world has nothing good to offer them and the end result of being in the world is hellfire. The good thing with the God we serve is that He never forces anyone to serve Him. When God created man, He gave him the mind to think, the heart to feel and the choice to decide. He never forced man, but rather gave man the free will to choose whether to serve Him or not. But the choice man makes has a lasting effect; that is, either spending eternity with Him or in hell. When Moses was talking to the Israelites, he presented the choices available to them: the choice to follow God or their own ways and desires; the choice of life or death. Though Moses was presenting these choices to the Israelites, the same choices are available to each and every one. You cannot sit on the fence and say that, “As for me, I am not making any choice”. What you should realize is that, until you make a conscious effort to choose God, you certainly belong to the camp of the enemy. A writer said, “You can refuse to accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour now, but you cannot refuse Him as your Judge on the judgment day”. Moses advised the Israelites to choose life; that is, to follow God and this same advice goes to each and every one. Have you made the right choice to follow God or not? This is a choice you have to personally make since no one can make it for you just as Moses couldn’t make it for the Israelites. Salvation is not a collective affair but rather, an individual one; that is why there is the need for a personal decision.
Confession for Today
My family and I have made a choice to follow Jesus for the rest of our lives and nothing can change that in the name of Jesus.
