Ephesians 5:18
“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;” Don’t allow your life to be under the influence and control of alcohol; rather, be controlled by the Spirit of God. Ephesians 5:18 is a command, not a suggestion. To live a Spirit-filled life is not optional for the believer, but obligatory. Every command is given to us by the Spirit of the Lord so that we might experience the best of God. For you to experience God’s best as a child of God, you must be filled with the Spirit. The Spirit-filled life is not optional for the child of God but obligatory. The greatest need of every child of God is to be filled with the Spirit. It is your responsibility to be filled with the Spirit. The greatest need of the lost or the unbeliever is to be saved or be born again. Every believer must be filled with the Holy Spirit. When you are filled with the Spirit you can live in obedience to the will of God. Without the infilling of the Holy Spirit, it will be very difficult for you to live in obedience to the will of God; and the will of God is the word of God.

Without the infilling of the Holy Spirit you cannot walk in obedience to the will of God for your life. For you to be able to engage in effective service to the Lord, you must be filled with the Spirit. Before the day of Pentecost, Peter and co were ineffective in their service to God, but after they were filled they were able to shake their world for Christ. It is only when we operate with the anointing of God that we can do much for Christ; it is only when we operate with the oil of the Lord that we can accomplish much for God. Whatever you do in the energy of your flesh will fail; whatever you do in the energy of your flesh will disappoint you. Whatever you do in the energy of your flesh will collapse; it will not last; for it is not by might nor by power. Zechariah 4:6 “Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.”

Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God – Romans 8:14 To be led by the Spirit is to be controlled by Him and be under His leadership; to be led by the Spirit is to be under His influence. If you can allow the Holy Spirit to guide your life, you shall know the blessings of God. The leadership of the Spirit of God will usher you into God’s blessings. Proverbs 3:6 “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” When you are filled with the Spirit, you shall be led by Him, and when you are led by the Spirit, the blessings of God shall overflow in your life.
